I’m in Austin right now, loving the blue skies, tacos, and American conveniences! It’s my annual February trip to Texas and Florida with Kevin and my daughter. I love Austin and we are having the best time! Today, I’m sharing everything I’m doing, wearing, eating, and buying in the U.S. When I’m in Paris, I miss American conveniences like getting anything delivered same day or even same hour. I miss all the wellness-y stuff like delicious bone broth from Local Pastures and supplements at People’s Pharmacy. I’m not complaining. It’s a privilege to live in Paris and the European food industry is overall cleaner imo (but I’ll save that for another day).
Where I’m eating? First stop, let’s get bone broth from Local Pastures, a cute blue trailer on Oltorf with local meats, eggs, milk, broth, and more. I love this place and highly recommend! We’re also enjoying our regular spots like Sap’s Thai, Torchy’s, Cabo Bob’s, (Kevin is obsessed), and The Grove Westlake. Everyday, I walk down to Jo’s Coffee for an oat milk matcha latte and migas tacos while Lia enjoys the potato breakfast taco. Usually, we plan for a big group dinner at Curra’s Hyde Park, but this trip was too short. Next time, you’ll find me there.
What I’m wearing? My current outfits are “business casual” even though most people dress very casually here and not in all black. You can take a girl out of Paris… lol, jk. I’ve been wearing the same items on repeat, mostly a v-neck cashmere sweater from COS (unfortunately not available in the U.S.) with baggy jeans or my usual Gymshark workout fit- Vital leggings, sports bra, and shirt. I adore this gym outfit so much, I have it in 4 colors. I didn’t pack a lot of clothes, because I’m bringing back a bunch stuff like supplements and Lia’s Christmas gifts from family. Plus, I keep some clothes at HOTELette Austin.
What I’m buying? While I have a love hate relationship with American Amazon, it’s just so useful and convenient sometimes. Ok, always. All the links are below, but here’s an overview of my American purchases. I’ve been ordering a TON of tea (too much tea), super cute computer case, some skincare, and other random bits and bops. I went a little overboard on the tea. Overall, life in Paris without Amazon makes buying random things more difficult and keeps my home less cluttered. If I move back to the States, I'd figure out some “rules” around Amazon because it’s just too easy to place orders. One girl friend adds to cart all week but only orders on Fridays after debating the necessity of each item. I like that idea.
What I’m doing for work? Most of my Austin friends ask me, “What projects are you working on right now?” When I’m in Austin, I meet with new and returning clients for 2 hour in-person consultations. When I’m in Paris, I work with American clients virtually. I’m also working on Parisian projects and shopping with clients at the Paris Flea Market. Of course, I work on admin things for HOTELette, but Linda handles most of it and I’m grateful for her. If you’re interested in any design services, click here and I’m happy to help! Wellness + health things in Austin. I ALWAYS bring back supplements from People’s Pharmacy. I LOVE People’s Pharmacy. If you live in Austin and you’re not shopping at People’s, what are you doing?! I'm kidding, but Austinites are so lucky to have People’s. What a resource. You can ask them anything wellness related and someone will have your answer. I got supplements for my gut, Candida, adrenal fatigue, B vitamins, and a good multi. 10 out of 10 experience.
For my skin and face, I visit Dr. Heidi Prather at Westlake Dermatology. Dr. Heidi is the best cosmetic dermatologist in town and I’m not just saying that because she’s my friend of 20 years. She’s the best. On Valentine’s Day, Kevin and I went for couples cupping. We are so romantic (and bruised) lol. We’ve been getting cupped by Dr. Lucas Brown at Rosedale Acupuncture for years and it’s better than a massage imo. For my routine bloodwork and hormone balance, I returned to BioVitality by the Hill Country Galleria.
For workouts, I’m keeping up my 3x/week Pilates routine at The Lagree Studio plus some weights at home and walking around the neighborhood. My steps are always wayyyy down when I’m in the U.S. but life (especially mom life) is easier with a car. Over the summer, I’ll get my VO2 Max tested. Live Lean RX was already booked so, if you’re interested, book in advance. I’ll also order some Thorne tests to check my gut health and Candida overgrowth. While I debated on sharing all the health information, a lot of people reach out to me asking about WHO I see. So, I hope you find this information helpful. If you have any questions, please write a comment and I’ll get back to you asap.
