Le Note #5
Back in Austin, Bread + Butter, and Why We Moved.
Bonjour!
We moved back to Austin! You’re probably thinking, “BUT WHY?” Lots of reasons brought us back- personal and professional. First of all, my husband got transferred back for work and our Paris apartment lease was up. Secondly, we never intended on staying in Europe forever. France is incredible and my Parisian life will be missed- and I’m very happy to be in Austin. It feels like I never left honestly- I don’t even know how that’s possible. I’ve picked up where I left off, but with a different perspective.
Some things I’m bringing back- lots of beautiful memories, a love of French food, and a 1/3 of a container full of French vintage furniture. Once I’m more settled, I’m determined to make homemade bread like the Swiss and butter like the French. Switzerland is known for luxury watches and chocolates, but have you tasted their bread?! WOW!!! While I prefer Parisian pastries, the Swiss make the best bread. Lucky me, I married into a lovely Swiss family and my mother-in-law is exceptional at bread baking. For butter, I prefer French better with the high fat content and chunks of salt. There’s NOTHING like it! I grew up with soft, bright yellow Maine butter since my mother keeps a freezer full of it. I just love creamy, salty butter!
My plan is to bake homemade bread and butter since Austin is a good bread desert unless you pay $12 a loaf (I might be exaggerating but not by much). Do you know any high fat, chunky salted butter? I’ve found European style beurre but without the sea salt. I don’t even own a mixer so this is all new for me. If you have any tips or tricks, please comment below!
While I’m looking forward to the future, I’m unsure about Postcards from Paris. I started this newsletter to share bit and bops from Paris. Since I’m back in Texas, the name doesn’t make sense. So I do change the name? Do I end Postcards from Paris on a high? Please let me know in comments. Bon dimanche!
Bisous,
Allison

Postcards from Paris and Austin … just keep building on it!
My first thought is to retire the notes from Paris. New chapter of your life. So glad you got to have that and the experience is priceless. When my first husband and I married we lived in Sydney for two years in the 90's then later I had my house in FR with 2nd husband as you know. All chapters in my life, and great memories! Now I am starting my new chapter in LA making yet new memories in a new place XOXO Hope to see you around Austin or if you're in LA
