Where to Eat, Drink, and Shop in Le Marais
A List of my Favorite Places in Paris' Popular Neighborhood.
When I moved to Paris in 2021, my family and I lived in a furnished apartment in le Haut Marais (French for the Upper Marais). Before moving here, I didn’t know the city very well or the characteristics of each arrondissement. So, I asked on Instagram, “What Paris neighborhood is the most similar to the West Village in NYC?” and most people responded with the Marais, the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. They were right and living in the Marais was the perfect spot for our first year in the City of Lights! Here are my favorite spots in the popular neighborhood…
SHOP:
Lemaire- The new flagship store is a must see for the coolest clothes and impeccable architecture.
Merci- Everyone’s favorite shop. You’ll find everything from vintage Levi’s to chic bed linens and everything in between.
Boketto- Fantastic vintage furniture store in the heart of the Marais.
MUSEUMS:
Musée National Picasso- My favorite museum in the neighborhood with stunning architecture. I always leave feeling inspired. After visiting the museum, head over to Breizh Café for my favorite crepe, ham and cheese.
Musée Carnavalet- Perfect place for coffee in the garden even if you don’t go inside the free museum.
Centre Pompidou- Modern and contemporary art museum in the 4th arrondissement with a great kids section. Before planning your trip, make sure it’s still open as it’s closing for a major renovation after the Olympics. Here is the full list of my favorite museums!
EAT:
Soma Saintonge- Trendy Japanese bistro. Make a reservation.
Breizh Café- Cute crepe place for breakfast, lunch or a snack.
Le Mary Celeste- Excellent lunch or dinner place for an intimate dining experience. Make reservations.
Chez Janou- Classic French cuisine and don’t skip the chocolate mousse. Try to make a reservation but not necessary.
Cafe Charlot- Lia and I stopped here almost everyday after the crèche (fancy French word for daycare). I order the Chicken Paillard every time!
Carboni’s- If you’re looking for Italian food. Make a reservation.
DRINK:
Little Red Door- Speakeasy with a great selection of interesting cocktails + mocktails.
Candelaria- Go through the Mexican restaurant to the back to access the hidden bar.
TEA:
Ogata- The most chic tea house and shop in Paris.
Wild and the Moon- If you’re looking for a dairy free latte or the best matcha latte in town, go here. I’ll probably see you there!

Saving this post for future reference!! 💘
Very useful list. Thanks for reminding me about the Musée Picasso. I still haven't been inside it after many visits to the Marais. I'll definitely make the effort next time. I would add one more museum to the list even if only because it's free: the Musée Cognacq-Jay.
